Burdick Mazda is Proud to be a Member of Driver's Village, One of the Most Unique Car-Buying Venues in the Country
If you look for a car long enough, you've undoubtedly heard the term 'auto mall' thrown around a time or two. However, in the case of Driver's Village, the home of Burdick Mazda near Syracuse, is quite literally an auto mall! Its unique history and layout make Driver's Village a one-of-a-kind home for Burdick Mazda!
The History of the Driver's Village Site Dates Back More Than 40 Years
Driver's Village in Cicero, NY, started as the Penn-Can Mall, and was opened in 1976. There was room for almost 90 stores when the doors opened, but less than 30 tenants. It was the golden era for malls around the country, and it wasn't long before all stores were occupied.
Penn-Can Mall proved to be so popular that it expanded just 10 years after it opened, pushing the store count well above 100. However, that proved to be the high point of its existence. The rise in e-commerce after the turn of the century was the catalyst for the demise of many malls. Penn-Can Mall began its decline before that, and was purchased by auto dealer Roger Burdick in early 2000, and the transformation of Penn-Can Mall to Driver's Village began!
Transforming Driver's Village into a Car Buying Paradise
Driver's Village is on the site of the old mall, just minutes from Syracuse and North Syracuse. However, the two structures barely resemble each other. Two wings of the original mall were demolished as part of the transformation and most of the remaining structure was completely redone, with a few notable exceptions.
With this mostly blank canvas, Roger Burdick went about turning the entire site into a massive automotive dealership, complete with multiple franchises, car manufacturers, and service bays. Today, Driver's Mall near Syracuse is an indispensable part of the local community.
More Than Just Cars
Burdick Mazda is one of an incredible 21 new car franchises housed at Driver's Village, just minutes away from Liverpool, NY. Driver's Village is an incredible place to buy a car, but it also serves the Syracuse community by offering much more with its massive space!
The retail era of Driver's Village is gone but not forgotten. Several retail shops and other businesses outside of the automotive industry still call Driver's village home, including restaurants, a martial arts studio, insurance agency, conference centers, even an art studio! Driver's Village has also been home to many activities benefitting the local community over the years, including blood drives, Special Olympic events, and even high school proms. Those are just a few of many ways that Driver's Village is happy to give back to the communities of Clay, NY, and Liverpool, NY, to name a few.
